From Small Beginnings

In 1988, a man named Don Bermant founded the Granite Seed Company near Salt Lake City. Utah. His vision: to reclaim and restore lands damaged by mining, drilling, wildfires, floods, and other erosion events throughout the West. Since then, the Granite Seed Company has grown to become one of the leading suppliers of agricultural, reclamation, and turfgrass seed in North America. Each year, Granite Seed supplies millions of pounds of seed to federal and state government agencies, corporations, large landowners, trusts, and commercial contractors.

Expanding to the Public

After decades of success in the commercial and government sector, smaller landowners began taking notice; demanding the same high-end seed products the big guys were using. With so many requests from homeowners, hobby farmers, and other consumers, the decision was made to start offering the same quality seed products to the general public. In 2011, the Nature's Seed brand was born and became the retail division of the Granite Seed Company.

What Makes Us Different

Anybody can purchase seed products at their local big-box or agricultural supply store. But do you think that's where golf course superintendents or rangeland managers go for their projects? Not a chance. A careful look at the seed tags of these products will reveal their true nature - high levels of inert matter, filler species, and mediocre varieties.

Quality From the Source

At Nature's Seed, our quality standards begin long before the seed even arrives at our warehouse. In addition to our own production fields, we use an extensive network of trusted wildland seed collectors and growers built over decades of experience. As for our turfgrass seed, we only stock varieties that have been top-rated by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP). These elite varieties have been bred for superior genetic traits such as color, density, drought tolerance, and disease and pest resistant. You won't find these varieties at any big-box store!

The Nature's Seed Way

Once we've acquired the best seed possible, we submit it to rigorous quality controls including custom cleaning, purity, and viability testing performed by independent seed laboratories. We don't treat our seed with any type of coating or pesticides, nor do we add inert matter or filler species.
